folklore is Swift's 8th album released in 2020 and contains 17 songs. This album was released as a surprise album, the announcement occuring just hours before its release at midnight on July 24th. It was created entirely during the months of quarantine in 2020 in her home studio and long distance with producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. At the 63rd Grammys folklore won Album of the Year making Taylor Swift the first female artist with three of the award.
Since its release folklore has been referred to as some of Swift's best work. It was the best-selling album of 2020 and when it was released it became Spotify's biggest opening day for a female artist. It's unlike her previous albums, following a much more folk and alternative rock in genre. Swift proved with this album she could continue to switch her aesthetics and genre and keep her fanbase. My favorite songs on the album are "cardigan", "august", and "mirrorball".
One of my favorite lyrics: "I'm still a believer but I don't know why / I've never been a natural / All I do is try, try, try / I'm still on that trapeze / I'm still trying everything / To keep you looking at me" from mirrorball
