Bon Iver and Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift · exile (feat. Bon Iver)

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Taylor Swift were introduced to each other in 2020 during the production of folklore through mutual friend and folklore producer Aaron Dessner. Both artists surfaced in the insustry around the same time but are apart in age and genres. When Swift changed genre's again to make folklore it was imperative that they had Vernon on the record.

Vernon came back for evermore to to sing the title song "evermore". Both of these albums were recorded in different parts of the country. Swift in New York or California and Vernon in Washington. The two still haven't met in person to work on a song to this day.

"exile" and "evermore" aren't the only songs that Vernon worked on. He recorded the pulse for Peace on folklore. On evermore he played the drums and guitar on cowboy like me and sings backing voacals on ivy.

Justin Vernon and Taylor Swift would continue their collaboration in 2021 for Big Red Machine, the Vernon and Aaron Dessner album. Originally Swift wrote the songs "Closure" and "Dorethea" for the album but those songs eventually went on evermore instead. In the official album release Swift wrote and perfomed "Renegade" with Vernon doing backing vocals, and Vernon wrote and performed "Birch" with Swift doing the backing vocals.
