Not only is there an occupation of land, but there is also an occupation of water. Israel has seized control over all water resources in occupied territories. While restricting Palestinian access to water, Israel has developed its own water infrastructure in the West Bank for the use of Israeli citizens and in the illegal settlements. In Gaza, 90-95 per cent of the water supply is contaminated and unfit for human consumption. Palestinians consume on average 73 liters of water a day per person, which is well below the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommended daily minimum of 100 liters per capita. One of the many ways that Israel blocks access to water, is by denying restricting parts of the West Bank under the guise of “military areas”. No one should be denied access to clean water.
