You continue to walk down fifth, walking past cute dogs and boys from NYU.
As you near the block you live in, you make a sharp right turn towards the coffee shop by your house to get a Chai Tea Latte.
You walk into the coffee shop and the first thing that hits you is the savory smell of coffee beans, pastries, and… your ex-boyfriend’s cologne.
You turn around and see that familiar face, covered partly by a wool sweater, walking inside from the cold.
You turn back around to order, partly hoping he doesn’t recognize you.As you begin to spew out your order, your final words are echoed by a deep voice behind you.
“You still get the same thing, huh?” He says, exposing a smirk as he takes off his scarf.
You flash a small smile as a thank you, then return to completing your transaction.
You walk towards the other side of the counter as he orders his drink. You put in your headphones and listen to your February playlist.
As you watch the barista conjure up your latte, you feel a tap on your shoulder. “Hey, how have you been?” That familair voice says.
You suddenly don’t know how to respond.
