This piece was originally inspired by Langston Hughes' poem "Harlem/What Happens to a Dream Deferred?" The poem has always been a source of motivation for me. In it, through a series of seemingly unanswerable questions, Hughes ponders all the ways that things can go a bit pear-shaped in life. Here the poem is linked to different points on the globe. Each location holds a story, somehow relevant to its respective question in the poem. Sometimes the connection between the line in the poem and the story is clearer than at others, but each short was directly inspired by its respective line. Furthermore, the locations all loosely relate to their stories in some way. Although what this connection specifically is, is something curious players are meant to uncover on their own. As with the poem and life, there are no easy answers...
