The Statue of Liberty, otherwise know as Lady Liberty was a gift of friendship from France to the United States. The colossal copper statue was designed by French architect Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and was built by Gustave Eiffel. The gift was officially dedicated in the year 1886 and Bledloe's Island quickly became Liberty Island. Lady Liberty represents Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. There are a total of 154 steps from the pedestal to the crown of the statue.
