New York City has, for a long time, been a place where underground music scenes are born and flourish. Many of the city's music venues, real or makeshift, are where many artists got their start, and where countless stories and pieces of music history lie. These places, however, are rapidly losing their recognition as luxury clothing stores & high rise apartment buildings push them out of their area. This map features just a few of the many iconic birthplaces of alternative music in the then-booming Lower East Side & BK.
