We know less about the deepest points on our planet than we do about the surface of Mars. In 2012, James Cameron successfully piloted the Deepsea Challenger, a submarine outfitted for scientific exploration, to the ocean's deepest point, where he collected various samples. Cameron was the second person to ever make the journey. Since then, fourteen people have made the trip (four of which were in 2021)!
