The Story

Freddy and Bean (college seniors and roommates all four years) have been best friends since the first grade, when Bean gave Freddy half of their candy when he missed Halloween. Ever since then, they’ve been inseparable.

If there’s one thing you should know about Bean, it’s that their favorite time of the year is Halloween. Freddy loves Bean- he really does- but he doesn’t think he’s ever met someone that goes so hardcore for a holiday.

August 31st is basically Bean’s (and grocery store’s) October 1st- this is when they start their season of decorating, cooking, planning costumes, and buying Halloween candy to give out. Their Halloween parties are legendary.

This love of Halloween was passed down from Bean’s Grandma (lovingly known as Gee). When Bean went through a garbage truck phase, Gee made them a garbage truck costume with a working lever that would pick candy up and dispense it in the back. They had matching witch hats they would wear when baking halloween treats, the recipes always from the well-loved white cookbook that was covered in orange pumpkins.

Gee recently died, and though they were able to spend her last days together, it’s been really hard on Bean. They were best friends, and Gee was basically the only family member to support and celebrate them coming out.

To make matters worse, Bean’s Aunt Louise and Uncle Jay (who are handling the estate sale and Gee’s personal items) won’t let Bean pick up items of Gee’s that are meaningful to them, since their family already came by to pick up personal items- which Bean wasn’t invited to do.

Freddy and their friends are livid. Naturally, they plan a heist.
