Later that day, it’s time for your lunch break at work. You spend the first few minutes laughing with your co-workers about something funny one of their dogs did. Another few minutes excitedly discussing your shared interests. You are perfectly content and enjoying yourself.

After the chatter dies down, you decide to go for a walk to finish out the rest of the hour. First you pull out your phone and answer a couple of messages from your mom and one of your friends. There’s nothing from your partner.

Out of your partner’s presence, you allow yourself to reminisce about what once was, the exchanging of funny pictures or the occasional distressed phone call that would come during lunch from one another. Now there’s nothing, not even the asking of a favor to pick up some groceries on the way home.

You wander into a bookstore. While browsing, someone, while looking at the same type of books as you, tries to spark up a conversation about the books in front of the two of you. You recognize what this person is trying to do. You also recognize you have an attraction to this person as well.
