• The White Sox were tied with the Cleveland Indians for 2nd place in the AL central division, only one game behind the Minnesota Twins.

• The White Sox were the 7th seed in the playoffs and came in tied for 4th place for the best record in the American League. They came in tied for 6th place for the best record in the entire Major Leagues.
• Chicago was eliminated in the best-of-three Wild Card Series in the third and final game by the Oakland Athletics.

Guaranteed Rate Field



• Construction began on May 7, 1989 by Gust K. Newberg which cost $167 million.
• Chicago’s new ball park opened on April 18, 1991 under the name Comiskey Park, but it was renamed to U.S. Cellular Field in January 2003 and then to Guaranteed Rate Field in November of 2016.
• Guaranteed Rate Field has the capacity to seat 40,615 fans, and a unique feature within the stadium is the Chicagoland Plumbing Council Shower, a carry-over from the old Comiskey Park, allowing fans to cool off during hot game days.
