- The Padres finished the regular season in 2nd place, 6 games behind the 1st place Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division. San Diego also finished with the 2nd best record in the National League and 3rd place for the best record in MLB.
- San Diego earned a spot in the playoffs as the 4th seed but were swept by the Dodgers in the National League Division Series. The club finished with a 2-4 postseason record.
- Since the Padres came into MLB, the club has only had 15 winning seasons in their 51 year long history.

Petco Park
- Petco Park was originally scheduled to open in 2002, but in October 2000, funding for construction of the ballpark ended and was halted for more than a year. However, construction resumed after the city of San Diego approved a $166 million bond.
- The stadium was created by HOK and Antoine Predock and was opened to the public on April 8, 2004. The stadium has a max capacity for 41,164 fans and had a total cost of $449.4 million.
