Your mom drags you into a car as you rush to what you assume is Evan's home. Your dad is on the phone with 911 and you feel paralyzed.
This can't be happening.
You get to the house and your parents rush in. You slowly walk out of the car then into the house.
Screams and sobs mesh together till your walk turns into a run as you find your parents. A door is smashed in and in your dads arms is Evan. Before you can see if he's okay sirens are heard and there are even more screams. Everything happens so fast until you see him being brought in the ambulance.
Time stops.
You've been crying but at this point you can't even feel it. What would have happened if you didn't tell your parents? What would have happened if I never joined in? What would have happened if I had said something to make them stop? Would he have never done this? Would he be safe and healthy?
Your parents drive you home. They say nothing as they stop the car. Nothing as you go into your house. Nothing until you are half way up the stairs to your room.
“We thought we raised you to be smart. To do something and help someone in need but I guess we were wrong” your mom says solemnly.
You say nothing as you walk the rest of the way to your room. You know she's right. You know you should have done something the moment you had the chance.
