Well, now your surroundings aren’t looking so dim. There are a couple of restaurants nearby with their lights still on, despite the fact it’s probably 3 AM. This puts you in a little bit of ease.
There’s someone leaning against the brick wall to your right. A man with a heavy coat (whose face you can’t see) seems to eye you while you march past him. A few seconds later, you can hear his footsteps behind you.
You can feel a trickle of sweat fall down your temple. You could run inside one of these restaurants for protection – then maybe he’d get the hint and stop stalking you. Alternatively, there are a few cars zooming across the road to your left…maybe you can try and hail another cab.
